Spanish Immersion at Metro

Metro Christian’s early, total one-way immersion program is considered a dual-language immersion program. In the immersion sections, children are fully immersed in the Spanish language and become bilingual by learning the subject content in Spanish. Specials, lunch, recess, Chapel, etc., remain in English. Beginning in the 3rd grade, students receive some English-specific instruction.

In the Fall of 2019, Metro successfully launched the Spanish Immersion Program with a full class of Pre-K students, and the school is committed to adding a grade every year through 5th grade, with additional opportunities in 6th through 8th grades beginning in the 2026-2027 school year.

That’s why Metro Christian Academy is committed to a dual-language immersion education to promote high academic achievement in both English and Spanish, cross-cultural intelligence, and high levels of bilingualism.

Imagine your child being able to speak more than just one language! Metro Christian Academy is the first Tulsa Christian school to offer a Spanish immersion learning track beginning in Pre-K. Metro Christian Academy is pleased to offer its Spanish Immersion program for the 2025–2026 school year, serving grades Pre-K through 5th. We currently provide one section in each of these grades in addition to our English program. Ultimately, the Spanish immersion program will extend through Middle School as we advance the program one grade per year.

The Spanish immersion program’s goal is to produce bilingual, high-achieving students who are proficient in Spanish and knowledgeable and appreciative of Spanish-speaking cultures. Why Spanish Immersion?

At the forefront of Christian education, this innovative program is a proven method of educating children by immersing them in a second or “target” language while embracing diversity and empathy for other languages and cultures. Students become bilingual by learning subject content in Spanish from a native and/or fluent Spanish-speaking instructor who is familiar with Hispanic cultures, enabling students to gain a deep knowledge of not only Spanish but also of the cultures that speak it and our Lord, who created all nations.

SPANISH IMMERSION THROUGH THE YEARS

Pre-K – 2nd Grade:

100% of content instruction (Reading, Math, Language Arts, Science, Social Studies, and Bible) is taught in Spanish
Enrichment Classes (Physical Education, Music, Art, Technology, and Chapel) are taught in English
All students share lunch, recess, and Chapel

3rd Grade – 5th Grade:

80-90% of content instruction is taught in Spanish
10-15% of content is taught in English
Enrichment Classes are taught in English

6th – 12th Grades:

Continued immersion in specified classes
