Service.

A rich word.

With multiple meanings.

Dictionary.com for example, delineates 35 distinct definitions.

Etymonline.com traces “a celebration of public religious worship according to prescribed forms or methods,” as coming from an old French term which meant homage—a public display of special honor and respect.

On Wednesday, November 8, our Elementary School chapel service honored God by honoring a special group of men and women for their service—viz., all those who have served our country in military service and all those who are currently serving whether actively or in reserves.

Some highlights of our standing-room-only, 22nd annual, Veteran’s Day chapel included:

  • Presented by our 3rd grade.
  • Directed by Dr. Sheila Cathey.
  • Decorations by several 3rd grade moms.
  • A tribute to each branch—and honor to all who serve or have served.
  • This year’s 3rd grade class has 5 military dads: 1 Air Force, 1 Army, 3 Navy.
  • This year’s special speaker was Metro’s very own Brandon Lenhart—a real-life Top Gun.

So, especially at this time of the year, a special thanks to all those who have served and to those who are serving.

We appreciate you. We love you. We honor you. Thank you for your service!

Grateful to be serving together,
Keith A. Currivean, Ph.D.
